well if you got the talking part down that's the first hurdle, but as you say its not really a concrete indicator (girls can be confusing in this way) so try to get her to accompany you somewhere, like a meal or social event, if properly presented this can be somewhat of a non threatening invitation that will alllow you to learn more of her feelings as well has give you an opportunity to possible get her to "like" you if its not already the case.

Shes definately shy, according to your statement. I would say talk to her more often in classes and say hi to her in the hallways.
