And to answer your question, the term "witch" has always had a negative connotation associated with it. Although 'Charmed' and 'Harry Potter' teach us that a witch can be either good or bad, the Salem Witch Trials are a firm reminder that I do not want to be burned at the stake.
Or, I could kick this Old Testament and quote Exodus 22:18: "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live."
So I don't want to be burned at the stake or stoned!
