I believe the quote is referring to having a partner. Not necessarily a romantic partner but someone who shared the same ideas or ideals. Becoming successful by yourself is a near impossible feat. Most people have help along the way, and to take the credit entirely would be selfish. So what I think it means is to share the glory with those that gave you a leg up.
