INACTIVITY

Hey Everyone

I am XGC Redline and I am a captain in XGC Animosity. I will be getting my General Spot sooner or later and I just wanted to bring up a couple points on Inactivity in a clan. First of all I know we can't boot people for not being active and I am asking why. When you signed up to be in XG you were suposed to be committed to your clan and not being there to help develop it isn't very commited is it? I know how people think some members are inactive but we know that they play on the 360 alot so that isn't a problem for me as long as there online its fine. Usually when someone is inactive they also have the wrong symbol which I don't like. When I look at my clan list I want to see the clan in uniform. It makes it look better for recruiting. If you have someone join the clan as a recruit and they see incorrect symbols nothing is stopping them from changing it to what they want. I know it seems like I am nagging or something but this really bothers me can some people fill me in on what we should do about this or what we can do about this. Any opinions or answers will be greatly accepted.

Hey Redline,
another thing to keep in mind, is that booting for inactivity is a very tricky situation, because you aren't just removing them from your group but XG as a whole. Early in the days of XG we were having a problem with people getting booted because Generals or Captains were saying they were "inactive" which tended to cause a lot of drama. I've actually seen members take 3 month breaks and come back to full activity. I totally agree that it sucks having 60 people in a clan with only 20 active members (we've seen this before) and nothing irks me more than those few wrong symbols sticking out like a sore thumb, but if you talk to some of the older generals or higher ranks, we've all been through this. The situation does suck, but we found that the alternative sucked even more. If you need any help or have any questions hit me up on either of my tags.

You can't boot people for being inactive because you don't know the reasons behind their inactivity. What if their internet died, like Black Mamba said? What if they were moving? What if they had a family emergency? It wouldn't be through any fault of their own that they'd been inactive, and it'd be wrong to boot them for it.

yeah, when i was still in GOOD GAME we had lots of inactive members because the clan was so old. i had a list going and if i ever saw any one of them get online i would talk to them right away, ask them how serious they are about xgc and often they would decide that they weren't really that interested anymore and for the benefit of the clan they would leave. There will usually still be a lot of people that will never get on though, possibly dead tags that arent even active anymore... as the others have said, its just something you have to deal with because it would be unfair if someone got booted that didnt actually deserve it.

hit me up w/ a friend request Redline if you want... XGC Perdition

I know exactly what your talking about Redline. I'm one of the generals for Apocalpys3 and we have a few members with either the wrong colors or the wrong symbol or both. We've also have a few people that have been inactive and we're up too about 95 members now and are running low on open slots for new recruits. I've just been sending message after message to our capitans and to those certain people to fix their colors. As far as the people that haven't been online we've just been patiently waiting for them to come back on. Not much I can do about them.

Remember there is only 2 ways to remove someone from XGC. Either they choose to leave and remove themselves, or they violate the honor code. If they do not do one of these 2 things, you have no right to boot them. I know people who have gone inactive for 2 weeks or 2 months. I had a member that was active over the summer, played a lot, went to college in the fall and didn't show up again until December, got right back into the swing of things and was a solid member.

As far as symbols go, no where in the honor code does it state a person has to have a certain symbol. The only requirements for symbols are that recruits have a solid color for their symbol so that it is easily distinguished as a recruit. Generals have adopted the Skull King as our symbol, but there is no written rule saying you HAVE to do that. Division and Section leaders have sent out messages in regards to anyone booting a member for having the wrong symbol will be banned from the community. Remember it is just a game. And outside of Halo, there are no symbols.

And actually redline, the number of inactive people is starting to go down a little bit.Same with the # of wrong symbols. But really the reason that the recruits arent taking it seriously enough,is that our captains are not taking it seriously enough.(Not you of course, thats why your getting general)Its really our captains that is the problem. Now we moght be able to get the clan back up to the strenght it once was.It just takes patientce and commitment.

I totally agree Spy Hunter - They say that Generals are the backbone of the XG, well, the Captains are the backbone of your clan. Active Captains bring the squads together and the clan together. They make people want to play the game, to be with their squad. That is why the position is there, and that is why people are promoted to Captain (and LT). I have seen Captains go inactive for extended periods of time and their squads fall apart without a strong Lieutenant to pick up the slack.

I also agree that it can be frustrating trying to get inactive members together. I am currently working on rebuilding the activity in Top Shelf as a new member there, altogether, that most of the clan members have never even heard of! This means that I am checking Bungie.net for the last active dates in Halo for every clan member, and XBox.com for their last active date in any game. Then I am sending them friend requests in order to hunt them down in the 360 dashboard and asking them if they would like to play that night, to get to know me. I do discuss other 360 games, and play other games with them as well, but I do try to make a point of getting them into Halo. It is a lot of work to keep people active, you have to make them WANT to play.

Now, I have a question for everyone - I had thought that I was told at one point in time that we could boot inactives (over six months or something insane) if the clan list was full. I'd like to know the answer to this, not that I have to worry about it for a while, but a good thing to know, anyways.

Thanks!

ok blndii, to answer your question. you are correct after 6 months or so you can boot people from the clan if they havent been on. you just need to notify your SL and let them know what is completely going on. Also about the clan being full... if your clan hits the max 100 people and you have inactive people then go to your SL and be like look our clan is full and so and so wants to get in and this person hasnt been on in this long so can we remove them to make space. But remember just make sure you send them a message letting them know what is going on and why they have been removed.

My newly crowned Pink partner above is correct as are others in this thread which is good to say many are on the same page. For a long time I have said, Consistency in dealing with issues as well as Communication are the keys to making our community better.

Having been around for 8 months now and in 5 to 6 clans as general and now having 9 in my section I can tell you a few things about having inactive people.

My motto has always been, get new people.
Don't worry about those that don't show up to play HALO everyday. But make it clear to everyone that we still use HALO to communicate for our meetings and such so they need to show up there for them. If they never play one game that is ok.

Other games do not have a HALO lobby to sit in and talk and they are running clans just fine. Actually better I think as there is no such thing as clan hitting in those other games. In reality, there shouldn't be that in HALO either if we used our website properly. Everyone puts their squad list here first. What shows up on HALO is just a copy of that and an easier way to communicate within the game. It is not the only way nor is it the real way to do things as www.xiledgaming.com is where our community really lives.

Halo, Fear, Gears, etc.. are the games we play.
Xiled Gaming is where we choose to hang out and play those games as well as communicate and network with great people.

Thanks guys. Good to know I have the correct information!

I agree Highlander, the forums are definitely the most important aspect of the XG. I barely play Halo itself anymore, I usually am in pregame lobby dealing with issues, or while I am doing something else (such as updating my squad list or posting on the forums) so that people can get a hold of me if they need me. The main reason why I am able to remain close to the people in Nightmare now (and soon Top Shelf) is that we chat on the forums every day.

And the forums have been an excellent way for me to meet people from other Halo2 clans that play other games. As a matter of fact, Redline is on my friend's list because he plays F.E.A.R. which we discovered through the ^<V game. :D

What a great segway Blndii, speaking of activity and forums, isn't it great that when scrolling through halo clan forums (along with others) the most recent posts are the design team recruiting back on 2/6/07. (sarcasm) I dont know what we can do to get more active, but it breaks my heart to see multiple forums sit stagnant for weeks on end.

I say that it is the general's job to get activity on the webisite, so if those generals arent doing their job, then its their section leaders who need to take notice, and take action!

I couldn't agree more, but do you see what I mean? Scroll down through the Halo2 clans and look at the forums, at least 1/3 have the design team recruiting as the most recent post in the forum which is really old.

Thanks :D

It definitely is very sad. I particularly enjoy the ones with less than ten posts...

I havent really noticed that.In Animosity, there are alot of threads with 50+ posts in it.I think someone else said this and im saying it again. Its the generals and captains that keep clans going. If your active on the forums and on live, the lower ranks will follow.Thats the human psyce,( I think thats how you spell it),for you.

What if we have a full clan and there are people who havent even been on in a couple of months and for all we know what if their account has expired whatdo we do then just leave them and send any recruits to other clans what do you suggest Aldier?
