The New Xbox One Controller:
Improving how you control the game.

By XDC Ixias XS of XiledGaming.com

After 2 years of hard work and dedication from over 100 Microsoft employees, we will be seeing a new controller for the Xbox One that is believed to enhance the gaming experience, whether that of a casual gamer or a more competitive one.

Some of you may notice that at first glance, the controller looks very much like the one that we already have, with the movement of the guide button to the top of the controller But don't be fooled. The differences may be subtle, but they are there. In fact, there are 40 changes made to this powerful control.

In this article i will be going over some of the more important changes implemented in the new controller.

The first of the crucial changes was made to the charging and battery of the controller. No more will you need to have a Plug and Play charging cord, or dock, in order to charge your controller! Now we will be using a standard micro-USB charger which makes the life of a hard-core gamer much easier.

Your controller will take AA batteries, either rechargeable or standard, which will now be housed in an internal battery compartment instead of the external compartment that Xbox gamers have grown accustomed to over the years.

Your new controller will have two modes: Wired and Wireless. When your micro-USB is plugged into the new controller, the transmissions from wireless will completely stop and all data will be sent solely through the wire. So those of you who would prefer to game without batteries will have that choice. For those who choose to game wirelessly, that option will be easier than ever! Grab yourself a set of rechargeable batteries and get to gaming. Just be certain to plug up your controller for recharge at the end of your gaming session for a fresh charge next time to settle in to your favorite title.

It is uncertain at this point what kind of battery life or charging time the controller will have, but one new feature that you should find exciting is the low power state. Lower power state will help conserve power when the controller is not actively in use. Meaning you can watch movies, listen to music or step away from your console without having to worry about shutting down your controller to save on batteries. The controller will go into conservation mode for you and will kick back up to normal whenever you're ready to start back in on the gaming. Never again will you have to think twice about turning off your controller.

Next thing on the list of changes would be the new rumble system implemented into the triggers of the controller. No longer will be have the big and clumsy vibration coming from the handles of our controllers. This new system will allow you to actually feel what is going on in the game. Whether it be the sputtering of an old engine trying to start or the recoil of your favorite assault rifle in a FPS title. The pulse and buzz of the new rumble system will directly correspond with the commands that you are giving in-game.

To take this innovation from idea to reality, developers had to find a way to not only enhance the vibration motors that we are used to, but also shrink it down to a fraction of the size to make sure it would fit correctly into the triggers of the controller. Which would also make the motors quite a bit more fragile, but don't worry! They thought about that too.

One thing that was tested for in the new controllers is durability. Microsoft understand that we are gamers and that some gamers out there get rather angry at games. They ran several stress tests on the controllers to find the key areas of stress to integrate reinforcements in those areas to keep the controllers from being broken during a moment of rage. There is also a thick plastic covering on the controller, which also covers up the screw holes, that is meant to absorb any shock of being thrown on the floor, at the wall, or even the tv screen. However, Microsoft does not promise your TV will be secure from your rage! So this new feature is no excuse to throwing things about in a fit of rage.

Another change made to the controller has to do with the Headsets used to communicate over Xbox Live. Microsoft has taken measures to assure a higher quality of audio delivery through their new Xbox One Headset. This is done, in part, through the newly improved data transfer rate between the console and the controller. With a 3 times higher sampling rate of transference, you are sure to have top quality conversations comparable to a telephone conversation. Something that Xbox gamers have not had the luxury of experiencing until now.

Unfortunately, it has been announced that the new Xbox One controller will not be compatible with any currently existing headset for the Xbox 360. But with all of the changes made to audio input and output in the new Xbox One Headsets, it may not be such a bad thing after all.

Next on the list of changes has to do with syncing. This is one of the more unique changes made to the console and controller combination. Xbox One and it's controller with use invisible reflective technology in pairing with LEDs to communicate data transfers between the console, controller and kinect. So what exactly does this mean? Well, it means syncing devices to the Xbox One system will be easier than ever. And even cooler than that, the Kinect will be able to recognize who is using the controller and pair the gamer to their preferences. As well set split-screen positions in accordance to where you are sitting among the friends that you're gaming with. Pretty cool, right?

The last thing I would to tell you guys about is the new button names on the Xbox One Controller. Microsoft has replaced the Start and Back buttons from the Xbox 360 controller to now read as, 'Menu' and, "View' on the Xbox One controller.

The Menu button will replace our current Start button, on the right side of the controller. This button will be used to bring up in-game menus as well as video and audio playback options. There will also be some user interface commands that you'll be able to access via the console dashboard using the menu button.

The View button will be replacing the back button and will be used to either change views in-game or provide more information regarding the game you are playing or the application that you are using. The main reason for this change has everything to do with developers and their need for more accessible information. Some ways this button could be used in the future are similar to the ways we use the back button today. Maybe to pull up the scoreboard in a multiplayer game. Or to bring up a map in an RPG when you're lost, or trying to find a new way-point. It will also be used to help in navigating the new Xbox One console dashboard.

These are only 6 of the major changes being made the the controller. These 6 in junction with the other 34 changes are sure to produce a high-quality, high-powered controller for all of your gaming and entertainment needs.

Yeah It looks great, but looks more like a boomerang. Lets see if I can get used to the controller. Other then that I'm excited for the Xbox one as well as the new updated controller.
