It helped with my understanding of the movie a great deal.  I had a friend who went into the movie with no idea of the background and he got confused and didnt like it.  Another friend just read the background off wikipedia and he thought the movie was good. I was pretty impressed with it and happy with the result. I think having some background knowledge of the story helps with comprehension of the movie otherwise most people i talked with that had no background were frustrated with it.</p></blockquote><p></p>
