Ever since I watched the below Youtube vid, I can't take that movie seriously. From studying WW1 and WW2, and applying myself to this era and film, if I was a soldier in this situation I would find it hard to believe the orders. Considering the huge losses faced by both allied and axis forces in both WW1 and WW2 you wouldn't think they would risk so many lives for just one man who isn't of a high profile (no matter how saddening the story behind him is - then again perhaps they wanted to prevent the 'lost generation' caused by WW1 happening again by at least saving some soldiers and their families from such trauma). Another thing factoring into the equation would be that most of the men going out to save him don't even know him (although yes I know, soldiers are brothers no matter who they are or where they come from). I guess it just provides insight into how far people are willing to follow authority/ take orders when they are questionable (there are some interesting studies done into people obeying authority) and the concept of 'for the greater good'. It would be interesting to see a modern day depiction of this story (I think there is one about a female soldier? - but it doesn't follow the storyline of SPR to the degree a new one should). Anyway, here is the video: [VID]YouTube - Second Chance Noobs![/VID]
