The world of Grand Theft Auto Online is not locked in place, and has been designed to grow in size and ambition over time, Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies has said. Speaking in an interview with Game Informer, Benzies explained that Rockstar's dream is "to create an entire Grand Theft Auto world that consists of everything we've done or are going to do then let the player freely move between them." The Rockstar boss called Grand Theft Auto Online "a beginning" for Rockstar, and claimed that the ideas for the online game had been percolating for over 11 years. "Grand Theft Auto Online has been in our minds for a long time - since we started on Grand Theft Auto 3," he said. "We've always wanted to create a world with the complexity of a single-player Grand Theft Auto game with the addition of real players. We wanted a world where people could spend years without getting bored of playing the same content over and over. "I think we've managed to achieve something very close to our dream." Rockstar unveiled GTA Online in August with confirmation that it will launch two weeks after the September 17 release of GTA V. Speaking to CVG alongside the reveal, Benzies said Rockstar is planning to add new locations to GTA Online "all the time". "We've set this up so there are no limitations. The only limitation is the size of the disc and how much memory we've got," he said. "We could, if we wanted, simulate the entire world, different countries, whatever. Whether we do that or not... But we've got a bunch of old stuff that we're toying with using." In the same article Game Informer reveals new GTA Online details, including insight into how the character creation system works and how players will be able to manage their expanding collection of cars. Rockstar has confirmed a US and European GTA 5 release date of September 17 on Xbox 360 and PS3. The game will launch in Japan on October 10.
