COULD THE US BE OUT OF CONTROL?

Whatever helped control them in the past, we've torn away. maybe it's simply the added influence of our "system" bringing up a new form of competition amongst the two factions. Whoever gains leadership can help push forward the goals of their sect. Whatever the reason, their war is our fault. What little harmony that did exist within Iraq, was shatered by our military. </p><p></p><p> Yet people, in the heat of 9/11, largely supported vengance and the war on Terror. We allowed our anger to get the best of us, and pushed through with a war on a country that we were led to believe was a strong source of terrorism. Yet more and more today, we see news stating that Iraq may not have been the terrorist stronghold we were led to believe it to be. We stormed their borders, did as we saw fit, and now have begun forcing our will upon their country. It was a hasty decision, caused by misinformation and uncontrolled emotions. What happened on 9/11 is indeed a tragedy; but it was propoganda that pushed things through to where they've reached today. Who's the puppetmaster behind it all? I haven't a clue, but i do know it was the population which helped push it forward. </p><p></p><p> Information is a dangerous thing. Too light, directed the right way, can manipulate the masses. Too much about too many things, and nobody will take the time to take notice of what is important. These are two terrible extremes: because it's information and knowledge which lets us make our decisions each day in our lives. We must know something about what's going on in our country, or we can't form together and cooperate with one another. Yet then we have moments like 9/11, when too little information can be provided, and we can be goaded into rash decisions and inappropriate actions. Even if the decisions to strike at Iraq was correct, even the way we preformed there is now being called into question. Previously respected generals are returning from the war to openly speak out against the war; these are people who have been a part of the military for a good part of their lives, have excelled in the ranks, and EARNED the rank given to them. Nobody attains such a rank without a level of respect for the job they're doing and the people above them. Yet they're returning changed; and openly opposing the way things are being done. And the people capable of doing such things, are still in power today. Bush remains president, the CIA (which has been named by several people to be an American terrorist group: it's been responsible for political assassinations, gained profits via smuggling, given power to people of their chosing in foreign countries, and more. <a href="http://www.ricksiegel.com/web2/node/34" target="_blank">http://www.ricksiegel.com/web2/node/34</a>) has still refused to release their information surrounding the 9/11 tragedy for reasons currently believed by some to be political, while others claim it to be for National Security reasons(<a href="http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070517/ap_on_go_co/cia_sept_11_probe" target="_blank">http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070517/ap_on_go_co/cia_sept_11_probe</a>), and our government managed to pass the Patriot Act under the claus of "National Defense" while effectively breaking several liberties regarding our own personal security; it allows others access to all of our personal information, e-mails, phone calls, belongings, etc, for the sake of National Security. Did i mention all this can be done without our knowledge or censent? I don't argue Clintin was out of line, but what Bush is doing and allowing to be done, i feel is a greater crime and more damaging to us than anything Mr. Clintin did in his time in office. It's true that our countries voting population has decreased in recent years, but it's sad when those people who didn't vote will step up and push for impeachment due to a personal mistake; yet they stick bumper stickers of support when our soldiors are being forced to fight a war that people are saying we should now be pulled out of; and should have been some time ago. The world told us we were out of line long ago; doesn't it mean anything to people when we're the oddball in the world? Can't our country make mistakes too? Our pride is too much if we can march against the rest of the world with conviction. Even if our information is biased by news groups such as Fox, that we lacked world-wide support wasn't a hidden fact. Yet our leaders arrogantly continued their plan. And we still haven't removed the people responsible. </p><p></p><p> I'll be honest, i haven't followed the news a lot, and i'm not one of the active voters. I recently turned 18, and recently gained the ability to vote; but our current situation frightens me. In my opinion, more drastic measures should be in motion against the people who have led things to their current situation. Some have said the war in Iraq rivals the Vietnam blunder, according to a CNN article released this January (<a href="http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/01/11/iraq.congress/index.html" target="_blank">http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/01/11/iraq.congress/index.html</a>). Not enough to scare you? How about this: On May 9th of 2007, a bill was passed which could give the president near Dictatorship powers through The National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive.
