INTRO = This class was developed to give you some important information which can help you in and out of XG as well as some things you need to know for being a part of the leadership in the community. This class does not mean you ARE getting a promotion but does help you better prepare for when a promotion comes. This is something I chose to do because I enjoy improving our community and individuals and watching them both become successful. In the end improving our community is the main goal.

What’s the difference between a leader and a great leader?

- Warren G. Bennis said, “The most dangerous leadership myth is that leaders are born.”
Most leaders are not great leaders and becoming a great leader does not happen by birth or by accident. It takes dedication, good decision making, and a lot of learning experience.

What does it mean to become a great leader?

- Walter J. Lippman said, “the final test of a leader is that he leaves behind in other men the conviction and will to carry on.”
Leadership is fundamentally about influence; it is about influencing people for a great purpose

A leader is someone who can provide direction, and has followers. They are also someone who can identify other leaders.

So what’s the most important quality a leader MUST possess ?
COMMUNICATION!! Leadership is a two way street of communication. They communicate goals and objectives. They heed the advice and feedback of team members. “GOOD COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS “

What are the resources that you have as a Captain to Communicate with your squad members? Clan Forums, Squad Meetings, Private Messages, Xbox LIVE, and Chat Room

So what’s the best way for XG to communicate?
FORUMS!! the forums are our primary source of communication. We all need to try and get on the website daily. There are a lot of important PM messages being sent out and we all need to monitor the forums often. There are a lot of really fun things to do on our website like the chat box, arcade, ratings and achievements of games. The most important thing we do on the web site is running our clans. Squad lists should be done on the website twice a month and we should all know how to direct new members to the clan user groups and how to register on the website. We should be communicating with our clan members in the forums and posting squad and clan meeting days and times. People should be wanting to go to the website just as being part of the community, Generals and higher should be using the site daily to run and maintain their clans organization.

Back to leadership.

Where does leadership truly start in the XG structure ?
Captains!! You now have control over most of the clans decisions, control over your squad, and you have your right hand man ( lieutenant). You now have a say in any decisions and changes in your clan. But remember with power comes great responsibility. The decisions you make not only effect you and your clan, it may affect the whole community.

Can a leader be a follower ?
Of course! A leader should be someone who can follow. A captain is a leader over his/her squad, but they follow their general. A general is a leader over his/her clan, but follows their section leader.
A leader is someone who is willing to take some responsibilities and make great decisions that is fair and follows the structure.
A group of leader ( such as captains ) should communicate with each other and vote on things that will help their clan ( such as promoting or removing a member ).
Lead by example.

A person may be doing a decent job but doesn’t understand what it takes to be a leader. To become a great leader you must LEAD BY EXAMPLE. Anyone can hand out orders, but if they see you doing what you are asking them to do , that’s when you gain their respect and that’s when they start following you. The dictionary defines a leader as “ a guide, one who shows or conducts the way; a chief or commander.” be a guide to your members and SHOW them how to be successful.

What’s expected of a captain?

Go over all of these answers. And speak about any that are not given and ask people what the importance of the ones that they do give

Ask one of the Captains to go on the website and show them how to get to the Rank Structure and have them read the Captains Rank to the group. If unable to have someone read, do it yourself -

Captains Responsibilities:

1. Know, understand, and be able to teach all the responsibilities of the lower ranks.
2. Act in a professional manner at all times.
3. Ensure members are following the Honor Code and have registered at www.XILEDGAMING.com.
4. Be active online in the game and on the forums.
5. Show dedication and commitment while assisting his/her General run a successful clan.
6. Run weekly meetings and squad practices as well as having a “Game Night” for your squad.
7. Ensure members are in a squad with people that play the same game(s), if not transfer them to another Captain’s squad or possibly another clan.
8. Evaluate and vote on new recruits.
9. Register on www.clancomplete.com, make challenges, and play in squad/clan matches.
10. Train your Lieutenant as your replacement.
11. Follow the chain of command and take issues to your General not higher ranks.
12. Post squad list in the clan’s forum using one the squad list prefixes with a color that represents the squad by the 1st and the 15th of the month.
13. Ensure no member is left behind!



--------Training the people under you-----------

Captains Should be able to teach their Lieutenant's The Following Responsibilities:

Lieutenant's Responsibilities:

1. Know, understand, and be able to teach all the responsibilities of the lower ranks.
2. Act in a professional manner at all times.
3. Ensure members are following the Honor code and have registered at www.xiledgaming.com.
4. Be active online in the game and on the forums.
5. Show dedication and commitment while assisting your Captain run a successful squad.
6. Be able to Run weekly meetings and squad practices
7. (Teach LT's what to look for and how to Evaluate Recruits)
*-Immediately follow up with all new recruits and assist them in completing the requirements for induction into Xiled Gaming throughout their time as a Recruit.
-Help all new recruits network with other clan members and community members through all games that they play- through XBL and the website.
8. Follow the chain of command and take issues to your Captain not higher ranks.

Make sure you are training the people below you because you are getting them and yourself ready for a promotion, by training the people under you; you are insuring that they have the right knowledge to do the right job. Also by training the people under you, you are insuring that your squad has the optimum configuration which is 1cpt, 1 Lt, 2 Sgt, and 6 Pvt. But that's not the only configuration you can have there’s all kinds of way to do but the way XG has found it to be the easiest is with the optimum configuration . Always keep in mind that the success of every Squad depends on the leadership of the Captain over that Squad, just like every Clan depends on the leadership of that general to keep the clan going and moving in the right direction. If you like having a big squad of people and which you probably do make sure you are planning activities with your squad members.

For EXAMPLE: squad practice, game night, quick scopes, cops and robbers, forge, just any little thing that will get you and your squad members playing together and getting to know each other.


Dealing with multiple issues ?

A good leader should be able to deal with a few different issues at once. Do not rush through a problem, take your time, deal with one issue then move on to the next. When problems start piling up do not panic or become overwhelmed. You should think calmly, fairly and without prejudice to resolve the issue. Most importantly you CAN ask for help. When things become too much for you to handle alone, it takes a true leader to ask for help from a fellow leader. We are in this together so let’s work together.

What does the XS, XD, XC, and XI stand for ?
XS = Xiled Section Leader
XD = Xiled Division Leader
XC = Xiled Community Leader

XI = is Roman numeral 11.
The council uses XI as a way of saying that there are 11slots open for council. The reason they chose 11 is because majority vote will come into play, there will be no tie vote.

How many council do we have now and what are their gamer tags ?

There are 9 council members , and since XG has started there has been only 2 promoted to council. XGC VIPER XI, XGC BlkKnght XI

------------ Promotion to General ----------------- Ask them if they would like a 5min break.

Ask a different one of the Captains to go on the website and show them how to get to the Rank Structure for General and have them read it to the group. If they are unable to read, do it yourself -

Generals Responsibilities:

1. Know, understand, and be able to teach all the responsibilities of the lower ranks.
2. Run and oversee all aspects of one clan.
3. Help other Generals when needed.
4. Maintain a clan list at all times.
5. Ensure all Captains update their squad list by the 1st and the 15th.
6. Update your clan/members list on the forums on the 1st and 15th of every month using the prefix clan list.
7. Hold weekly meetings with Captains and Lieutenants to discuss squad issues and pass on the latest information and community news.
8. Attend the MANDATORY meeting every Sunday or notify his/her Section Leader if they cannot attend.
9. Work closely with his/her Captains and Section Leader to create an enjoyable gaming experience for all members in the XG community.
10. Handle issues in his/her squads with the Captains and take only major infractions to the Section Leader.
11. Communicate in game and on the forums be spamming messages that are passed down from the XG leaders.
12. Make sure all Captains are registered on www.clancomplete.com, making challenges, and playing in squad/clan matches.
13. Ensure all members know the rank structure and who the leaders are in the community.
14. Request XGC gamer tags from Section Leader for approval.
15. Ensure the Captain and squad is playing together in similar games and/or game types, if not transfer the member(s) to another Captain’s squad or possibly another clan.
16. Ensure no member is left behind!

So you want to become a general.

Captains may become eligible for a promotion after holding their rank for a minimum of 30 days, training their replacement, meeting all their responsibilities, running successful squads, being a positive role model for their clan and the community, being active in game and the forums and have been properly evaluated by Section Leaders.

Running a successful Squad:
Clans are made up of one or more squads.
Each Squad is run by 1 Captain and the success or failure of that Squad falls square on the shoulders of the Captain.
While Generals are over an entire Clan the Captains work with the General to run and over see their Squad.

The Squad needs to be comprised of members who game together. As a Captain you are here to ensure that this is happening and if needed to transfer a member to another squad in your clan. This is done by having both Captains as well as the General of the Clan agreeing on it. A member may need to be transferred to another clan if your clan does not play the same game as the member. This is done with both Generals and Section leader(s) approval.

Squad Practices: Should be used to discuss your squads tactics and train your members on how to work together in the game, these should not only be fun but also informative. Captains should work closely with Lieutenants and go into each practice with a plan, but don't forget your members might have ideas to improve your plan so listen to them and work with them. The more input they have the more vested they will feel in the squad and in the clan as a whole.

Squad meetings:While these meetings are to inform your members what new events and happenings are going on in XG passed down to you from your General, they are also the time to hear from your members what you can do to make the clan better for them. Clan meetings don't have to be boring they can be a fun time tempered by your leadership you can entertain as well as inform your members and learn yourself who is a potential leader in your squad.

Splitting your Squad: As your Squad grows in numbers and your LT becomes ready to branch off to form their own squad remember these things:
Your General as well as your Section Leader are here to make this transition smooth. Squads of 12 - to 18 members need to consider splitting. When the Captain and the General agree that your LT is ready for promotion and will succeed without you they will become responsible for their own squad as well as training up their own LT. Then the successful process will start all over again. This big brother mentality is what we are looking for. Once a Captain has successfully split his squad at least once they may be consider for Promotion to General.


----------- Recruiting Process ------------

Does any one know the right way to recruit someone?

1st - Make sure you are putting them in the right gamer division.
2nd - Play with them and make sure there right for your clan.
3rd - When Recruiting Make sure the recruits have been read off the entire Honor Code and they understand and accept it. Give a brief discription of the Rank Structure and they understand and accept it. Answer any questions they may have about XG, Then help them Register on xiledgaming.com and join the right usergroup.
4th - Follow up with the recruit the next day or so and help them with anything they may need.
Finally - Just get out there and game with the new recruits and other members. It is vital that you play and get to know everyone in your squad and not just play with your buddy's. Otherwise you will see yourself with a small squad and eventually getting a demotion. If you want to just be a gamer, then stay at the rank of private. Remember there is no such thing as an inactive recruit. Remove them off the squad list if they dont communicate with you and dont sign up on the website.

Micro Managing !!!

Micro managing is stepping all over your leaders feet, doing their job for them, not giving them the freedom to succeed on their own, not holding them accountable for their members they are over.
Captains, stop micro managing for your lieutenants!!! Give them a chance to learn what they need to learn to be successful. Give them some responsibilities. Allow them to help you make some minor decisions for your squads and resolve minor issues. Let them run some squad practices and meetings.

Don't be Petty !!!

We are a gaming community, if you are only worried about getting promoted then you might keep others from succeeding, by being petty you might hoard recruits in your squad instead of helping another squad grow or you might hold back a LT who is ready for promotion because you do not want to go through the trouble of training another one, or you may recruit people into your clan that are not right for your Division make sure you are not putting round pegs into square holes.

We all work together to ensure two things happen in XGC, XGG, KoG and SYN: to ensure it thrives and grows in a professional and organized manner, to establish and maintain a fun environment, free of trash talking and cheating. It would be impossible to ensure these two things happen, as we get bigger without training and trusting our leaders.

What does XG mean to me.......

Example:

Since I have joined XG, its opened the door to a whole new world of gaming for me. I have met hundreds of gamers that I can consider friends that share the same interests and beliefs as I do. XG has taught me to become a better gamer and a great leader and I am proud to be called an XG member.
