The Xbox 360 is well-known for the hardware issues that have forced many users to tearfully wave goodbye to consoles as they send them to Redmond for replacement. But for many, once that replacement Xbox is plugged in, another, more insidious problem rears its ugly head. Digital rights management issues have been a thorn in Microsoft’s side for some time now, but thankfully, those days appear to be in the past.

Previously anybody using a replacement Xbox 360 had to be logged into Xbox Live at all times if they wanted to access content like Xbox Live Arcade games. But according to Major Nelson, users can now transfer their licenses using Xbox.com and download them manually onto the new console using the newly-released Content License Transfer Tool.

Major Nelson has completed the process himself and apparently found it pretty easy, saying that he was "a little promiscuous with regards to where I was purchasing content." Take that however you want, but the new DRM tool can be found on Xbox.com.
