PS3 Firmware 2.40 to Bring In-Game XMB, Trophies
So when is firmware 2.40 coming? Some time after 2.36, at least.

Sony announced Tuesday (via their PlayStation Blog) that firmware update v2.36 will be launching soon for the PlayStation 3, improving system stability with select PlayStation format software titles. Exciting, huh? Okay, not so much -- but this is: The same blog post also revealed that the long-sought after in-game Cross Media Bar (XMB) feature will finally be included with the next firmware update, v2.40. What’s more, firmware 2.40 will also bring the Trophies feature, Sony’s answer to Xbox Live’s Achievements that will grant various trophies for accomplishing goals throughout each game.
So when’s firmware 2.40 coming? Well, in typical Sony fashion when it comes to pegging down a specific date for the in-game XMB feature, they didn’t specify. But Sony does promise to reveal official details "shortly," so hopefully this is at least a sign that it’s finally within sight of release.
