Gameplay
Naughty Dog has confirmed that the lead character in the game, Nathan Drake, will have a large number of different animation sets, enabling him to react according to his surroundings. All the money that players earn in the game's story mode will be available for transfer to multiplayer, and vice versa. Gamers can make use of their cash to buy out new weapons, as well as upgrades for online gameplay. The stealth mechanic has also been simplified and improved.
Arne Meyer has uncovered some facts about the gameplay, saying:
"…the key ones are the new melee options and an expanded repertoire of stealth movement, one of which sees Drake jump from above for a silent kill. I’m personally excited about the new brawling moves, which let you take on many enemies at once and use the environment, whether that’s grabbing a chair, slamming an enemy into a wall or removing their gun and dispatching them that way.
Multiplayer
The game features improvements and changes from the multiplayer of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, such as character, weapon and emblem customization, new maps, and new game modes such as "Free For All", "Three Team Deathmatch" and "Hardcore". The difference of "Team Deathmatch" from Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3 is the inclusion of a cinematic intro and ending at every match. For example, at the "Airfield" map, the match starts off at an airstrip with a cargo plane preparing to take off with the heroes inside, the villains in pursuit via trucks. The intro is always the same, but the ending depends on which team wins (e.g in the "Airfield" map, if the heroes win, they lock the villains in a container, and if the villains win, they take the heroes hostage.) Furthermore, the top three players out of both teams have their emblems shown around the map. Co-op Arena is also improved, now more varied, so at one time, you play "Survival", then "Gold Rush", then "Siege" and so on. Also added are "Power Plays", which are advantages the losing team has over the winning team at certain times, like "VIP", where you have to kill a marked man for extra money and "Opposed", where you can see where the enemies are through walls. But, members of the winning team can earn double the money for kills and assists, like if the marked man kills someone while in the "VIP" power play, they gain $200 instead of $100. For the beta there is only supposed to be 25 ranks, but there are some players who are past it for unknown reasons. Also, you can earn treasures throughout a match, which if you collect all of them in a set, like the "Regal Dining" set, you earn an item of clothing for your character or a piece for your emblem. In order to get treasures, you can get one from chests scattered around the map, or you can kill someone and they drop a treasure. The only players that see the treasure are you and your buddy. Unfortunately, treasures are there for a short amount of time until they disappear. There is now a buddy system in the game, where you are partnered up with a random player. They are identified by their emblem being shown to you. You can spawn behind them, but can't if there are grenades nearby, in combat or dead. If you and a buddy help each other kill someone, a symbol appears showing you have to hold down the Down D-Pad Button to do a high-five with your buddy which earns you additional money. Also, your buddy has the ability to see the treasure, so if you are unable to pick it up, your buddy will for you. Also included are "Medal Kickbacks", where you earn a reward for obtaining a certain number of medals, such as "RPG" if you earn 14 medals, which is that you get an RPG with 2 rockets to use or "Smoke Bomb" if you get 7, which is that you can teleport to somewhere safer if you're in trouble.
