Activision confirmed that the next Call of Duty title will be Black Ops 4.
Mark your calendars for Friday, Oct. 12 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Though rumors of a Nintendo Switch version has not been confirmed yet. But EUROGAMER has more intel on that one. Very few details have been released thus far, but now we have a definitive date for when we’ll see what’s coming in Treyarch’s latest blockbuster.

BREAKING NEWS! No single player campaign?

According to a POLYGON report, BO 4 will be the first in the series’ history to launch without a solo campaign. Following Polygon’s report, renowned insider CharlieIntel posted an article detailing the possibility that Raven Software is working on a Battle Royale mode for Black Ops 4. The developer has allegedly been contracted to create the mode as Treyarch works on the main components, with Activision no doubt hoping to capitalize on the genre popularity. Intel goes on to corroborate the earlier report by Polygon which states that Black Ops 4 will not feature a single-player campaign. Instead, Treyarch will place greater focus on multiplayer and zombies with single-player substituted for new co-operative modes. A cast of interesting characters reported possessing a short yet entertaining solo campaign; Call of Duty: WW2 at times failed to capture the drama and heartbreak of war in a way that felt truly convincing. In turn, World War 2 lost a lot of online players world wide.

Zombies has reached the point where it’s now a common component in all Call of Duty titles. Regardless of the developer, there’s always a mode where you and a group of friends can team up to obliterate the undead. Hopefully BO 4 will take the zombies to modern day instead of the past or the future. Imagine a canvas of a map anywhere in the world based in 2016. Can you see it? Leave a comment of what you think. Even though most were left disappointed by Call of Duty: Ghosts, its horde mode at least introduced a new type of enemy with its alien adversaries, lending things an extra sense of supernatural tension. It was something different, thinking outside of the box.

Activision and developer Treyarch plan to host a community reveal event on May 17. In the meantime, you can check out the 33-second teaser trailer below.
