Small Gestures

Today mark's the sixth year that my dad passed. Everyone says, "don't worry it gets easier". No. Not it doesn't. You just learn to deal with it.

Today I have been doing great, surprisingly. I've been trying to keep my mind occupied and keep myself together. Nobody really wants to walk into a law firm with a girl basically losing her mind and falling apart. So like I said, I've been doing great. However, in the last hour, an anxiety attack snuck up on me for no reason and I basically fell apart. Want to know what the trigger was? My boss told me I needed to make a small change on a document. That is literally what it was. Going to be honest, I'm pretty ashamed of it happening over something so little.

So apparently I had myself so wrapped up in trying to keep myself together that my mind and body basically just gave out. I went and hid in the bathroom for about 15 minutes trying to pull myself together. Apparently I wasn't quick enough because everyone knew there was something wrong with me. One girl (who happens to be the closest friend I have here), knew what today was. She told everyone that I would be okay and that I was just having a rough day. She didn't give any details which I am thankful for because I do not need 6 other women and 3 other men hovering over me to ensure that I'm okay. I'm truly fine, I promise. Just need a moment.

So after everyone continued about their business, she came up to me and just simply wrapped her arms around me. I tell you what... I never thought a hug could be as comforting as it was in that moment. It brought me to a moment of peace so fast that I didn't even know that it was happening.

When you see someone is struggling with something small or know it is a big struggle for them, just simply be there for them. Offer your shoulder but do not hover unless they ask you to. You have no idea how far a small gesture can go for the people who have the struggles to deal with. You can make someone's entire day by just simply being there.
